(NEXSTAR) – If getting free Krispy Kreme wasn't enough to settle your frustrations caused by the widespread Verizon outage, you're in luck. Late Wednesday morning, thousands of Verizon users found their devices without service and trapped in "SOS" mode. When a phone is in "SOS" mode, emergency calls to 911 should still work using other networks or a satellite connection. Verizon's support team acknowledged an issue impacting "wireless voice and data services for some customers." It took until late that night for the country's largest cellphone provider to give the all clear. (If you're still having troubles, Verizon recommends restarting your device.) In an update on Thursday, and in a statement shared with Nexstar, Verizon said, "Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves." To make up for it, Verizon is offering customers $20 in account credit that can be found in your myVerizon app. If you're a business customer, you'll be contacted directly. Verizon said this "on average...covers multiple days of service." "This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can," the post read. "But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us." Initially, multiple users on X noted they weren't able to find the account credit in their app. An update to Verizon's post said customers will get a text message when the credit is available. Verizon did not share what caused Wednesday's outage but said it would "continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that people expect from Verizon."
