(NEXSTAR) – Service was largely restored to X on Friday afternoon after a morning outage prompted tens of thousands of users to complain about issues affecting both the app and desktop version of the site. Complaints recorded by outage tracker DownDetector began to exceed “typical” numbers shortly after 10 a.m. ET. By 10:15 a.m., nearly 80,000 users from across the country had reported issues. “Something went wrong,” reads a message displayed to users attempting to view a post. “Try reloading.” “Here we go again[,]” one Reddit user lamented, referencing a reported X outage that occurred earlier this week. Records of outages at DownDetector began to subside shortly after the initial spike, only to skyrocket to around 65,500 shortly after 10:45 a.m. ET, according to the outage tracker. The volume of outage reports quickly declined thereafter. Service appeared to be restored to most users by the afternoon. Elon Musk, the CEO of xAI, which owns X, had not commented publicly on Friday's issues. Friday's X outage follows another major service disruption affecting Verizon customers on Wednesday, who reported being unable to make calls, or stuck in "SOS" mode. The cell provider later apologized for the outages and issued $20 credits to affected users.
