(NEXSTAR) - Ashley Farquharson, is an elite athlete, but she actively works toward being a well-rounded person in hopes of finding success and balance in all phases of life. Farquharson, who started luge at age 11 through the Youth Sports Alliance in Park City, emphasizes the importance of mental health and visualization practice in her training. She is currently training at the Lake Placid facilities, which provide a significant advantage with their indoor track and start facility. "The biggest thing for me has been learning to separate my self-worth from my results," Farquharson said. Farquharson's training includes a focus on visualization practice and mental imagery, which she believes helps her and her teammates better prepare for race settings. "We’re really leaning into visualization practice."The Lake Placid facilities offer Team USA a unique advantage, allowing athletes to train their starts all summer long, which many other countries cannot do. "Having our own start facility in the United States is such a crazy advantage," Farquharson noted. In addition to her athletic pursuits, Farquharson is studying business administration at Purdue Global, balancing her education with her training. "Sometimes it’s taxing or it’s a lot of work, but it’s nice to have something else to focus on," she said. Farquharson's goals for the upcoming Olympics include achieving consistency in her runs, aiming to perform well across all four race runs.
