(NEXSTAR) — You may be preparing to eat your fair share of Christmas cookies, but another set of once-a-year baked goods could soon be yours. As they do every year, Girl Scouts across the country are preparing to sell boxes and boxes of Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and all your other favorites. There is also a new cookie available, Exploremores. Depending on where you live, there may already be Girl Scouts with order forms, ready to serve your cookie needs. For the rest of us, it may be a few weeks – or nearly two months, for some – before we're able to get our hands on a glorious box of biscuits. Just as the cookie variations sold can vary from community to community, when the cookie season starts varies by Girl Scout council (a council is comprised of local or regional troops). According to the official Cookie Finder from the Girl Scouts of the USA, the cookie season has already begun in several areas throughout the country. An analysis by Nexstar found that to be the case in Chicago, central Illinois, the District of Columbia, parts of North Carolina, along South Carolina's coast, western portions of New York and Virginia, southern sections of Kansas and Massachusetts, central Michigan, and Alabama. The Girl Scout cookie season will kick off on Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri; Topeka, Kansas; and Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee. In Providence, Rhode Island, sales start on Saturday, and some troops have already scheduled booth locations. Generally, the first few days of the cookie season are limited to online sales. Then, Girl Scouts can sell in person. Elsewhere in the country, cookie season doesn't kick off until the calendars flip to 2026. That's true for troops in northern Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; McAllen, Texas; and Burlington, Vermont. In Richmond, Virginia; much of Georgia; and Panama City, Florida; sales begin Jan. 2. Troops in Las Vegas have to wait until Jan. 3. Across multiple metros, the Girl Scout cookie season starts during the second week of January. That applies to Denver, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, San Diego, Oklahoma City, Colorado Springs, Grand Rapids, and Sacramento, Nexstar's analysis found. If you live in New York City, Philadelphia, or Columbus, Ohio, you can start buying cookies on Jan. 15. Sure, that's a month away, but the wait could be longer. In Madison, Wisconsin, Thin Mints and Tagalongs won't be available until Feb. 21, more than 60 days from now and well after sales begin in Rockford, Illinois, some 70 miles away. In North Dakota and South Dakota, troops will start offering up cookies slightly earlier on Feb. 9. You can find out when your local Girl Scouts will be selling cookies using the Cookie Finder. You need only your zip code. The price of the cookies will also vary by area. As the GSUSA explains, the 111 Girl Scout councils in the country set their own prices, which "reflect the current cost of cookies and the cost of providing quality Girl Scout programming and experiences in an ever-changing economic environment." All funds raised through cookie sales stay with local councils and troops.
